Search for moff animal cafe harajuku and you land at Moff Animal Cafe CUTE CUBE Harajuku Store — the 17th Moff animal cafe in Japan, opened November 27, 2025 on the 3rd floor of CUTE CUBE HARAJUKU on Takeshita Street. It is the second of two Moff-operated cafes on the same floor (the other is the cat-only Cat Café MOFF), so you can do animals and cats in one trip. Here is what to know before your first visit.
Hours, prices and the no-reservation rule
Hours are 10:00–20:00 daily, with last admission at 19:30 and last cafe orders at 19:30 (the cafe serves a drink bar — soft drinks included in the entrance fee). The big draw for travelers: no reservations are required. You just walk in. Admission is ¥3,500 for junior-high and older and ¥2,000 for ages 4 through elementary school, both for unlimited time. Children under 3 enter free. A disability certificate gets a 10% discount for the holder and one caregiver. During peak hours they may run a complete turnover system, so if you come on a Takeshita Street weekend, expect to be asked to wrap up when your session ends.
The animals: 20+ species, including a two-toed sloth
The cafe has more than 20 species of animals you can see, feed, and (gently) interact with. The star is a two-toed sloth — slow-moving, photogenic, and a real crowd-puller. Birds are a big part of the line-up: owls (Acacia owl, Spix's owl, Eurasian Eagle Owl), parakeets (cockatiel, budgerigar, white-bellied parakeet, golden-winged conure, green-cheeked conure) and pigeons (silver pigeon, Japanese dwarf pigeon). Reptiles include a ball python, Colombian rainbow boa, bearded dragon and African spurred tortoise. Small mammals cover hedgehogs (four-toed and Madagascar), chinchillas, guinea pigs, rabbits (Netherland Dwarf) and hamsters (golden and colorful).
The rules — read before you go
The cafe is strict about animal welfare, and breaking the rules can get you asked to leave. The key ones: hand disinfection on entry and exit; watch children at all times; camera flash off; no hugging the animals; do not move an animal or carry it around; if an animal tries to run away or shows discomfort, do not chase or touch against its will. Children under elementary school age must be accompanied by someone 18 or over, and one adult can bring up to three children. Re-entry is not permitted — if you need the restroom, tell a staff member.
Why it works in Harajuku
Takeshita Street is one of Japan's most-visited tourist streets, and CUTE CUBE HARAJUKU sits right on it. Moff chose the location specifically to share "interacting with animals" and "moving experiences" with inbound visitors as well as Japanese guests. The whole floor is climate-controlled (it is a great rainy-day option), the cafe is stroller- and wheelchair-accessible, and Wi-Fi and power outlets are available. If you are pairing it with a Harajuku shopping day, plan 60–90 minutes inside — the sloth alone is worth the wait.
Getting there and the opening sticker giveaway
CUTE CUBE HARAJUKU is at 1-7-1 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, a 1-minute walk from Meiji-jingumae (Harajuku) Station on the Fukutoshin and Chiyoda lines. There is no on-site parking — use public transport.
