旧東急東横線高架橋モニュメント at Shibuya, Tokyo

Preserved section of the former Tokyu Toyoko Line elevated railway viaduct at 3-22-22 Shibuya, a monument to the railway history.

The Former Tokyu Toyoko Line Viaduct Monument is a historical structure located at 3-22-22 Shibuya. It preserves a section of the former Tokyu Toyoko Line elevated railway viaduct, which operated above ground through central Shibuya before the line was relocated underground in 2013 as part of the major Shibuya redevelopment project. The Toyoko Line previously ran on elevated tracks through the heart of Shibuya, connecting Shibuya Station with Yokohama.

When the Tokyu Toyoko Line was moved underground to through-run with the Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line, the former above-ground station and viaduct were demolished as part of the redevelopment that created Shibuya Scramble Square and other new complexes. A preserved section of the original elevated viaduct has been retained as a monument to the history of the railway and its role in the development of the Shibuya area.

The monument is located in the Shibuya district near the original alignment of the Toyoko Line, in the area between Shibuya Station and the Shibuya Hikarie and Scramble Square developments. It serves as a reminder of the dramatic transformation of central Shibuya, where the railway formerly divided the neighbourhood at street level.
