渋谷リバーストリート

Shibuya River Street is a roughly 600-metre pedestrian promenade that runs alongside the Shibuya River from Inaribashi to Shibuya Bridge, built on the former site of the Tokyu Toyoko Line elevated railway. Opened in 2018 as part of the broader Shibuya Stream development, it has quickly become one of the area's most pleasant walking routes, offering a surprisingly calm counterpoint to the famous scramble crossing just a few hundred metres away. Along the promenade, visitors will find stylish food stalls and takeaway outlets that make it a popular lunchtime spot for local office workers, as well as landscaped greenery and Kawazu cherry trees that bloom in early spring, creating a photogenic stretch of pink along the water. In April 2026, the street received its first illumination renewal in three years, with the new 'SHIBUYA FLOWSCAPE' lighting installation adding a striking nighttime dimension to the riverside walk. The promenade is free to access and open around the clock, with direct connections to Shibuya Stream and the surrounding commercial buildings. It is best reached from Shibuya Station's south exit, and makes for a lovely evening stroll, particularly when the illuminations are on display and the riverside cafes are buzzing.
