Cafe Ma Maison is a Japanese-style Western cuisine (yoshoku) restaurant on the top floor of Shibuya 109, blending the comfort of a neighbourhood cafe with the polish of a department store dining room. The menu revolves around generously portioned omelette rice, hamburg steaks and gratins, all rendered with that distinctive yoshoku touch, rich sauces, melted cheese and familiar flavours given a gentle Japanese twist. The pancake selection is another big draw, with tall, souffle-style stacks that have earned the cafe a dedicated following among Tokyo's sweet-toothed brunch crowd. With around 70 seats and a relaxed atmosphere, it is a surprisingly calm refuge amid the buzz of one of Shibuya's busiest buildings. Open from 10am to 9pm with no regular closing days, Cafe Ma Maison is easy to fit into any itinerary. It is especially handy for a mid-shopping lunch or an early evening meal before heading back down into the 109 retail floors.
