Meiji Jingu holds its autumn grand festival from Sunday 1 November to Tuesday 3 November 2026. 1 November is 鎮座記念祭, the shrine's 1920 dedication day. 3 November is 例祭, Emperor Meiji's birthday and Culture Day. 崇敬会 posted the 2026 list on 7 September. JAPAN 47 GO listed the same three days on 29 September and pointed at meijijingu.or.jp/event/. The 10:00 rites are for members who applied by 20 October. Public 奉祝行事 are 陪観自由. Rain can cancel viewing. Treat a rain stop as a cancel, not a delay.
November gates open at 06:10 and close at 16:10. The shrine sets those hours from sunrise and sunset, not from a tourist clock. There is no night run. Goshuin is at 長殿 from 09:00 until close. Cars enter from the Yoyogi gate only. Do not run in the trees. Do not eat except at marked spots. The inner garden, 御苑, is a separate paid walk with its own hours. That is not this festival. Sunday 1 November: 10:00 鎮座記念祭 for members from Chiyoda, Minato, Shinjuku, Taito, Koto, Meguro, Ota, Setagaya, and Saitama. Bring the autumn 代々木 bulletin and the 参列券. Family supporting members bring the membership card. You cannot walk in as a tourist and sit the rite. Public hogaku and buyo start at 12:00 on the shrine stage. Sankyoku is at 15:45.
Monday 2 November: 10:00 second-day rite for members from Shinagawa, Nakano, Suginami, Toshima, Itabashi, Nerima, Adachi, Tama, the islands, and Chiba. Public noh and kyogen at 11:45 on the shrine stage.
Tuesday 3 November, Culture Day: 10:00 例祭 for members from Chuo, Bunkyo, Sumida, Shibuya, Kita, Arakawa, Katsushika, Edogawa, Kanagawa, and everyone outside Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba, and Kanagawa. A court envoy attends 例祭. That is a shrine fact, not a ticketed show. From 09:00, kyudo at Shiseikan's second range and aikido on the west lawn. Kobudo at 10:00. Momote-shiki at 11:00 east of the treasure hall. Yabusame at 13:00 on the west approach lawn. Satsuma biwa at 15:00 at Gehaiden.
Yabusame sits on 西参道. 大日本弓馬会 lists the same 3 November date at Meiji Jingu. 崇敬会 puts the clock at 13:00. A horse runs the track. A rider in hunting dress looses a 鏑矢 at a wooden target. Stand back from the rope. Do not cross the approach while a horse is on it. JR Yoyogi, Toei Oedo Yoyogi, Odakyu Sangubashi, and Metro Kita-sando are the useful stations that afternoon. JAPAN 47 GO lists each at about ten minutes. The south approach from JR Harajuku and Meiji-jingumae is the postcard walk to the hall. It is the wrong door at 13:00. Yoyogi Park's west side dumps you onto the west approach without the Harajuku queue.
Lead-in dates sit around the three days. Tanka contest 18 October, 13:00, at Sanshuden. Bugaku 31 October, 11:00, on the shrine stage, the morning after scramble Halloween night. The shrine is a different job from Center-gai. The ward already bans street drinking 18:00 to 05:00 around the station, Center-gai, and Miyashita Park. Do not treat the forest as a costume walk-off.
